Archbishop Desmond Tutu chooses aquamation as a green alternative to cremation

Archbishop Desmond Tutu is still changing the world, even in death.

Humble to the end and beyond, Tutu had requested a simple pine coffin and chose aquamation, which mirrors traditional cremation, only with water. This means 90% less energy used than in flame-based cremation, as well as no emissions of greenhouse gases or mercury, and no burning of fossil fuels, says Bio-Response Solutions, an Indiana company that offers the procedure.
